Encouraging everyone to question diet society and break free from its harmful myths and the behaviors it normalizes
Lets Eat...without Apology
Allowing yourself to eat all foods instead of labeling foods "good" or "bad" then punishing yourself for not eating "perfectly" is one of the key principles of Intuitive eating. This unconditional permission to eat is vital in the process of improving your relationship with food.
In a world where over-working and rarely saying no is normalized, taking the time to listen to your body and practice self-compassion is essential. Self care can be as simple as taking a breath and telling yourself it is okay to have boundaries.
We are constantly bombarded with the message that our bodies are to blame....that life could be different if our bodies were different. So we compare, ridicule and try to force our bodies into submission in pursuit of the "perfect" body. What if we appreciated our bodies for what they do and worked on cultivating body appreciation? Befriending our bodies is possible!
HAES is a movement devoted to increasing awareness of the biases surrounding what is healthy. Research shows that health concerns often attributed to weight/size are actually a result of weight cycling and the negative effects of dieting. HAES is trying to improve the approach to healthcare through: weight inclusivity, health enhancement, respectful care, eating for well-being and life-enhancing movement.
It is not linear and more often than not resembles a rollercoaster. It takes open communication, accountability for decisions and willingness to change. Recovery from an eating disorder or poor relationship with food and body is possible and worth it. Remember everyone's journey will look different.
